Family character

Several years ago I was reunited with a cousin I had not seen since we were boys. We shared many memories and reflected upon our family heritage. It has been a true blessing to draw near to him again. The best part is that we share an active Christian lifestyle.
During our visit, he made a statement that caught me off guard. He said "I can remember coming to visit you when we were kids. The word I would use to describe your home setting is that there was PEACE". I had never thought of it that way.
Our home was peaceful, and with 5 kids, that was quite an accomplishment.
Do you realize the family structure in which you were raised has a description? Families have character and reputations. Some are loving and everyone is respected, others are stressful and harsh words are commonly expressed. Some families have open discussions, while other families keep secrets.
We can do very little to impact the homes in which we were raised. But, we can choose to continue the same style of communication or make intentional changes in the home we establish.
Some people are successful in life "because of" their home environment, others are successful in life "in spite of" their home environment.
Our world needs each one of us to make a difference. That difference and influence can begin in our home. Let's determine to have a positive influence upon the lives around us, beginning with our own family.
