Sibling Grief

Losing a brother 26 years ago (I was 25) and then watching my daughter lose her big sister (almost 5 years ago) made me realize how little information is available on sibling loss. And, as described in "Siblings & Grief: 10 Things Everyone Should Know" by Dr. Christina Hibbert, how "Sibling Grief is Often Misunderstood".
Back then, we just ‘stuffed’ our grief. As I have watched my daughter become an only child, I’m much more aware of and sensitive to the feelings that come with sibling loss. And, I so appreciate those sweet friends that have stepped in and have helped bind her heart back together and have become 'sisters' to my Addie! These friendships have meant the world to her and have made the difference in her grief journey.

I also love this article on TEARS acronym...

Quickly summarized:
T= Talk about it
E=Exercise
A= Art – get creative
R=Record your feelings
S= Sob when needed

One of the fun sister memories that we cherish. This was in the back of our RV on the way back from a weekend at Beaver’s Bend.
On Addie’s 13th birthday (the last one Lauren was here to celebrate), she had a fun photo shoot, requesting donations to the Pulmonary Hypertension association in honor of Lauren, in lieu of gifts. Such sweet friends, still very much in Addie’s life today.

One of Addie’s best friends decorated her car for an 18th birthday morning surprise! These special moments help fill the void that exists with sibling loss!
